Entrepreneurs are special critters

I subscribe to a few newsletters from organizations that specialize in products and services for business.

I try to read through them quickly every other morning so I don't miss a juicy article that might be the one I need to solve a problem I'm dealing with. One of those articles I encountered a couple of weeks ago was titled: "Think Like the Entrepreneur You're Meant to Be" 5 Essential Steps to Becoming an Entrepreneur.

I respectfully disagree with this statement, and every aspect of it.

There's not such a thing as "learn to be an entrepreneur in 5 steps", you either are an entrepreneur or you are not, it is just that simple.

Entrepreneurship is a bug people are born with, it is in their dna. It's like having brown eyes, no matter what trick they tell you, your eyes will not become blue just because you follow a diet or devoured a blue eyes vitamin pill, it's not going to happen!

Now, if they offer a course to channel "the" entrepreneurial bug, that's another thing. It might actually help them create profit out of so many ideas that entrepreneurs come up with on a daily basis. I highly recommend to anyone who suffers the symptoms sometimes called "serial entrepreneurship" to consider a reputable course and stick with it.

Entrepreneurs are great idea generators, unfortunately many of them lack the knowledge to materialize a product that will end up on the shelf.

Although all of them have "the bug" it manifests in various ways, in general, entrepreneur's tend to crunch ideas that flow in waves in their mind, they can't help it. No matter where they happen to be, they are obsessively observing their surroundings, analyzing, tweaking concepts, formulating systems and methods the way they think and honestly believe is "the way" to make it more efficient and effective.

Entrepreneurs are terrible at 9 to 5 kind of work , their thought processes don't have a schedule, it might happen at 3am. They frequently don't get along with the boss who is not nearly as smart as they are, therefore conflict emerges and he or she ends up quitting to go on their own. I can go on and on, but you get the picture.

Entrepreneurs hate to be told how concepts or systems ought to be done, run or otherwise managed, simply because that's what you're good at. Quite often they are full of themselves and have very little patience for the rest of the people who can't grasp their genius. Most people think they live up in the air or "in their head", of course they live in their head, that's their comfort zone, they truly thrive there.

Some of the mortals they are surrounded by try hard to understand what they're up to, some of them are there to keep them focus, which is not easy, being scattered is their specialty, frequently they  are all over the place. They wish they could split in many people so they can accomplish what comes to mind in that very moment. What happens is that when you are through "the waves" and the first idea is still evolving your mind rushes to another idea and another, days and months go by generating thought processes. That's their strong suit. That's what "they" don't get, why they are all fired up.

Some entrepreneurs are wired and stacked on "invention mode", they don't see the point to get into the boring part of trying to sell the darn product they just came up with. They are there to offer solutions, shortcuts, fixes. Making money of it is another matter.

Some have the good fortune to count on friends, spouse, assistant to be the "admin people" who tirelessly attempt and sometime succeed assembling a real business out of these ideas. Their job is to make sense of all these aha! ideas, embody them into products/services/formulas/systems and actually put them in nice packages and sell the concept to investors (vc).

One would hope these crazy ideas become some day what Google, Netflix, Craigslist, Couchsurfing, etc. are in the market today. Furthermore it would be nice to hear more entrepreneurs are fortunate enough and that many of these products are successfully sold. That way those ideas will make economic sense and end up at inventors bank accounts big time, so they can breathe and keep thinking.
